Leave balances and carry-over
How allowances, half-days, weekends, public holidays and year-end carry-over add up.
Your Time off page shows where everyone stands: this year's allowance, anything carried over from last year, what's been taken and what's pending, and the remaining balance.
How days are counted
- Weekends and public holidays don't count. miaHQ uses your company's working week and public-holiday calendar, so a request that spans a bank holiday only spends allowance on the actual working days.
- Part-year starters are pro-rated. Someone who joins mid-year gets a fair share of the annual allowance, not the whole thing.
- Balances self-correct. Approving leave takes it off the balance; declining, cancelling or deleting a request puts it straight back.
Half-days
A request can start on the afternoon of the first day and/or end at midday on the last, and a single day can be a morning- or afternoon-only half-day. Each half lands as 0.5 of a day.
Carry-over
Carry-over is off by default. If you want unused days to roll into the new year, set a carry-over cap in Settings → Leave. At your leave-year boundary, unused allowance up to that cap rolls forward automatically.
Setting it up (managers)
Settings → Leave is where you set the working week, the leave-year start, the carry-over cap and the public-holiday calendar — the four things that drive every balance. Requests are reviewed in Approvals, where you'll see the person's remaining balance as you decide.
