Clock in with a tap tag (NFC)

A tap tag is an NFC sticker you mount at your venue. A team member holds their phone to it and it clocks them in or out — no PIN, no shared device. It's a nice middle ground between everyone using their own phone and a fixed kiosk.

How it works

Each tag is tied to one location. When someone taps it with a phone they're already signed in on, miaHQ toggles their clock state and records the time, the location, and that it came from a tap. The action — in or out — is decided by miaHQ, not the tag, so a tag can't be tricked into clocking someone the wrong way.

Set up a tag

You'll need at least one location first (Settings → General). Then, in Settings → General → NFC clock points:

1. Choose Add tag, pick the location, and give it a label like "Back door" or "Bar till".
2. Open the tag's dialog to see its QR code and link.
3. Write the link onto a blank NFC sticker. In Chrome on Android you can write it straight from the page; on other devices, use any NFC-writer app, print the QR, or order pre-printed stickers.

You can rename a tag, switch it off, or delete it at any time — deleting one stops any sticker carrying its link from working.

What your team does

1. They need a miaHQ login and to be signed in on their phone (if not, tapping sends them to log in first).
2. They tap the tag. A full-screen confirmation shows "Clocked in at 8:58" (with the location) or "Clocked out".

That's it — tap to start, tap to finish. A quick double-tap won't clock you twice; for a short window it just tells you your current state.

How it compares

• Tap tag — the person's own phone, records the location.
• PIN kiosk — a shared tablet, PIN entry, no personal phone needed.
• From the app — clock in/out on the dashboard.

All three land in the same timesheets, so you can mix them — tap in at the door and clock out from your timesheet if you like.
